砂锅陶 or sand pottery is a kind of ware in which clay is mixed with sand at the time of preparing the clay and shaping the vessels. It is normally used for cooking pots all around China, but in this case Master LiYouRong successfully attempted to use it for his tea ware and with great aesthetic achievement. He made numerous experiments throughout the years and now enjoys a humble livelihood with great naturalness and the unrestrained joy of the free man who do not have fixed schedules or bosses. He lives not far from Longchang, in a hilly country, his house and workshop surrounded by forests, in total harmony with the elements. He entertains his guests with tea and baijiu made by himself in clay jars, he is the perfect example of the man of the Dao who follows his stimuli and tries to harmonize himself with the flow. Everything he eats or drinks comes from his land, his orchards. I thought we need to support him because such an hard work, such an honest person deverves encouragement and recognition for his deeds.
Li You Rong has recently been nominated Rongchang City intangible cultural heritage inheritor, but these are official recognitions are not so important for a honest artisan like him. Such Immemorial art is able to speak by itself, and we are proud to support such an outstanding union of ancient art and innovative, natural aesthetics.
