Sister Yuming, Jinmaishan, Yunnan.
Sister Yuming is a tea grower of the Dai ethnic group, which is particularly numerous on the mountains of south Yunnan. They are tenacious, matriarchal people. She, helped by her Han husband, grows, harvests, and processes by hand the millennia-old big tea leaves from the nearby old forest. Trees are majestic and revered by local people as bodhisattvas which nourish and protect the community, in a festival taking place each March. Sister Yuming carries on this splendid handmaking tea technique and makes little tea biscuits of white and red tea variety, shenpu and shoupu (naturally and artificially fermented) tea cakes.
